For over 20 years, I built a career as a scientist and humanitarian, leading research and programs to protect some of the world’s most vulnerable communities from malaria. On the outside, everything looked solid.
At the same time, life was hitting just as hard. Cancer. Divorce. Becoming a single parent. Starting over in ways I hadn’t planned for.
My default was always the same. Push through. Figure it out. Keep going. Until I couldn’t.
Grief stopped me in a way nothing else had. The only place I found any real relief was on my yoga mat… and eventually, in my breath.
What started there was subtle. I began to notice what was happening beneath the surface, in my body, my breath, and my reactions.
And for the first time, there was space. To pause, to see clearly, to choose what happened next.
I began to understand yoga differently. Not just as movement, but as a complete system that includes the breath, meditation, philosophy, and how we meet our lives moment to moment.
Today, I teach that complete practice at Yoga Commons, just outside Washington, DC, and through my online platform, Yoga Endeavour. Helping people meet life with more clarity and steadiness, not just on the mat, but when it matters most.
